About Artist
Bārbala Gulbe is a glass artist. Born in Riga in 1972 into a family of artists. She graduated from the Riga School of Applied Arts (1991) and the Latvian Academy of Arts (2004). Her diploma thesis was supervised by Dainis Gudovskis in the doc. I. Audere's workshop. Master's degree (2004). In 2002, together with a group of like-minded people in Riga, she founded the Glass Gallery, located in the Old Town at Laipu iela 6, to promote and acquaint the public with various glass processing techniques and possibilities. She works as a practising artist in her private workshop in Riga, using various techniques – sculptural objects in thermal fusion, with post-processing in cold techniques such as engraving, etching, deep matting.
