"Through the Eyes of a Child is based on the experiences of two Latvian children who were part of a mass deportation to Siberia in 1949. As a child, Benita Eglīte (née Plezers) recorded these events in drawings. The pictures were hidden during the occupation and brought to light after Latvia regained independence in 1991. These illustrations are published along with Benita's adult descriptions of what is happening in each scene. Each drawing is also accompanied by a reflection written in adulthood by Anda Līce. Deported as a child, Anda later became a writer and poet."
The book was originally published in Latvian and English in 1996 without texts by Anda Līce and entitled Ar bērna acīm/ Through the Eyes of a Child.
Available at the Museum of the Occupation of Latvia (Latviešu strēlnieku laukums 1, Riga).
