On 2nd April 2013 The President of Turkey, Abdullah Gul during his state visit to Latvia visited the Museum of Occupation. He was welcomed by the Museum’s Board Chairman Valters Nollendorfs. The President was introduced to the temporary exhibition and he signed the Museum’s guest book.
Abdullah Gul, The President of Turkey: "I believe that the Museum of Occupation of Latvia which houses documents and memories of a painful era in Latvian history is very important in reminding future generations of the past.
I appreciate the role of the Museum of Occupation of Latvia in preserving the memory of a time in the past that should never be experienced again.
I would like to take this opportunity to honor the memory of the fallen Latvian soldiers and the Latvian people."
