New Offers for Summer

26.06.2018.

During the summmer season guided tours will be held everyday at the museum in English at 12:00 and 16:00. The price for a tour is 3 EUR per person.

In the museum basement the exhibition “1940-1950. Portrait of a Decade” can be found. Also, in the foyer there is the exhibit of the month: a ribbon from a flower wreath which was laid at the Freedom Monument on 14 June 1987 by the peaceful resistance group “Helsinki 86”.

On the way to the exhibition, on the first floor by the stairs, the “Monument to Freedom” can be seen. This autumn the monument will be erected in the Belgian city Zedelgem. It is dedicated to the idea of freedom and to the 11,000 Latvian legionnaires who spent their first post-war winter in British captivity in Zedelgem. The museum is still collecting donations to build this monument. Donors who give at least 100 euros will receive a bronze bee pin from the monument’s designer, sculptor Kristaps Gulbis. Donations can be made in person at the museum’s main office, or on the museum’s webpage, via PayPal, at www.omf.lv

On the museum’s second floor the shop offers a great selection of books to buy.

The Museum of the occupation of Latvia is one of the participants of the collective exhibition, made by Latvian museums, “Latvia’s Century” which can be found in the National History Museum of Latvia, Brīvības Bulvāris 32.

The Museum of the Occupation of Latvia’s historian Dāvis Pumpuriņš created two sections of the exhibition: “The Suppressed State. World War II (1940–1945)” and “Attempted Destruction of Latvia. Stalinism (1945–1953)”. The exhibition also includes a short film with 10 eyewitness testimonies from the Museum of the Occupation of Latvia’s Audiovisual archive.

The exhibition “Latvia’s Century” is open every day, except Monday, from 10:00 until 17:00, and on Tuesday from 11:00 until 19:00.
