FREE ADMISSION TO THE MUSEUM

On 25 March 1949 42 125 people were deported

16 869 males
25 256 females

10 987 children under the age of 16

40 176 (95.4%) were ethnic Latvians
790 Russians
590 Poles
252 Belarusians
a few Lithuanians, Estonians, Ukrainians, Germans, Finns, Norwegians, Armenians and one Frenchman

211 children were born on the way and in settlement up to 1950
229 people died on the way including 33 children less than 5 years old
