Deportation Remberance Day at the Museum - "My Magadan"

05.06.2018.

On the remembrance day of the 14 June Mass Deportation, the Museum of the Occupation of Latvia, Raiņa Bulvāris 7, will host the solo-performance “My Magadan” ("Mana Magadana"), by the actor and director Ēriks Vilsons. All are welcome to attend. Two shows are scheduled at 15.00 and 19.00. Entrance is free! The performance will be in Latvian.

In his performance, Ēriks Vilsons will tell the story of his family and their roots. The performance was created using the director's childhood memories and his mother Zenta Vilsone’s letters which were written in exile, as well as Ēriks Vilsons diaries from his 2013 trip to Magadan with Dzintra Geka and the "Siberian children" foundation.

Ēriks Vilsons: "This will be a personal look at the events of history, my birthplace - the city of Magadan, in Kolyma. My first word was not in Latvian, not Swedish, not English. It was not "Mummy", not "Daddy". My first word, which had to be said with a raised fist, was in Russian. Dam! - which can be loosely translated to "How I'll mess you!""

The project has been organized with the help of the Cultural Development Association “Tapala Lapa”, in cooperation with the stage designer Zigrīds Atals and the director’s assistant Roberts Vilsons. The performance at the Museum of the Occupation of Latvia has been financially supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia.
