On 24 October, in support of Ukraine Riga was hosting the Third Parliamentary Summit of the International Crimean Platform. Delegations from about 40 countries participate.
Within the framework of the summit, there were also other events, one of them – an expert discussion of Deportation of Crimean Tatar people in 1944: From Recognition of Genocide to the Restoration of the Rights of the Crimean Tatars in the Ukrainian State, monitored by Latvian politician, Romualds Ražuks, took place on 23 October in the Museum of the Occupation of Latvia.
The audience was honoured by the speech from the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk, at the beginning of the closed event.
Refat Chubarov, Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, Nariman Dzhelyal, First Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis, Eskender Bariiev, a member of the Mejlis and Andris Teikmanis, a politician from Latvia, were speakers at the event.
Before the official session, the honoured guests from Ukraine visited the exposition of the Museum, where the Museum guide, Victorija Pivina, explained the similarities and differences between our two countries in the 20th century.
The Museum received as a gift the flag of the Crimean Tatars, which is now on display in the vestibule of the Museum.
