Propaganda. War in Ukraine

In modern democratic states, the freedom of opinion and speech is obvious. During Russia’s war in Ukraine, there is a lot of information in mass media, social networks, and various internet platforms. But how do you navigate in the information ocean? What is propaganda, and how does it work? How do you recognize which facts are distorted and false? These are just a few of the questions that we will try to answer during the lesson.
We will talk about propaganda that was used by two totalitarian regimes – Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union during the Second World War to enforce their interests. We will discuss the propaganda of modern Russia that is used to justify its crimes against the Ukrainian people and their state with disinformation and lies. We will encourage students to learn how to recognize fake news and disinformation.
