On 2 November 2017, the Minister of Foreign Affairs for the FYR Macedonia, Nikola Dimitrov, visited the Museum of the Occupation of Latvia as part of his visit to Latvia from 31 October to 2 November. The minister, along with his delegation, listened with interest as they became acquainted with the history of Latvia, and the minister remarked upon the similarities with his own country. The minister wrote in the visitor’s book that Latvia was "a moral voice of the European reunification", and that Latvia and FYR Macedonia are "far apart in terms of geography, but close in terms of our collective historical experience".
