The Governor of the State of Michigan, Gretchen Whitmer, visited the Museum and noticed a wooden box bearing the painted Michigan address of Alvīne Kupčs. The box is typical of the luggage with which former refugee families emigrated from Displaced Person (DP) camps in West Germany to restart their lives in the USA, Canada, and Australia.
In the guestbook, the Governor wrote “… the Latvia and Michigan partnership of 30 years means the world to us. Your friend, Gretchen Whitmer, 49th Governor of the State of Michigan.”
