Commemoration Day of Victims of Communist Terror

25.03.2025.

On 25 March 1949, the Soviet occupation regime carried out its second mass deportation of Latvians after the one in 1941. The deportees were mostly transported to very remote regions of Siberia, where hunger, cold and unsuitable living conditions were the rule.

About 43,000 people, mostly rural Latvians and those who do not support the ideology of the foreign regime, are forcibly deported in overcrowded cattle cars.

This intimidates other rural people in order to force them to join collective farms, destroys the traditional way of life in the Latvian countryside and reduces the possibility of supporting national partisans.

Our Museum remembers, commemorates and reminds about those Latvians whose lives and existence were cruelly taken from them, so that it will never happen again.

On March 25th, we invite you to explore the Museum's exhibition for FREE.
Latviešu strēlnieku laukums 1, Rīga.
Opening hours: 10.00–18.00 (entry till 17.30).
Concept, design, realisation of the Exposition of the Museum: Design studio H2E.
