Looking back at the Museum's book presentation

“This is a story of a conspiracy between the Communist Soviet Union and Nazi Germany. It is the story of three occupations that dismantled the Latvian state, defiled the land, and, within half a century, brought the Latvian nation to the brink of extinction.” 

On September 12, in the Exhibition Hall of the Museum of the Occupation of Latvia, updated and revised edition of the history book Latvia under the rule of the Communist Soviet Union and National Socialist Germany: 1940–1991 by the well-known public figure, former chairman of the Museum Association Board and long-time Museum’s voluntary employee Valters Nollendorfs was presented in Latvian and English editions. 

The story of the book's creation from 1998 has been intertwined with the history of both Latvia and the Museum, and more than 50 interested friends attended to listen to the report about its emergence and continued progress. 

Memories, testimonies, and reflections were interspersed with thanks to each and every one who has been involved in the creation of the book.

Both in the past and at present, the Latvian nation has faced a variety of challenges, but the key to a happy and bright tomorrow is in the wish/prayer expressed poetically at the conclusion of Valters’ presentation: "Let our togetherness grow, allow us to get better!"
