Benita Plezere was 11 years old when she and her family were deported from their country house in Zemgale to the forced settlement in the Ural Mountains. To describe her experiences on the way and living in the forced settlement, Benita drew postcards, that she sent to her godmother in Latvia.
Deriving inspiration from drawings and Benita’s interview, a sand film for the “White Night” of 2016 was created. Benita’s life story was portrayed in this film. The film was created in collaboration with the union’s “Sand Cinema” artist Guna Zandere. We also offer a selection of drawings with the author’s comments.
