Virtual Museum

On 2 September 2011, the Museum presented innovative project – “The Virtual Museum of the Occupation of Latvia”. The Virtual Museum is a broad range digital exposition with additional 3D elements.  The Virtual Museum is particularly (but not exclusively) directed to young people who are comfortable with the latest technological advances and media. Through access to the Internet the Virtual Museum serves to provide its readers with a considerable amount of information from within the resources of the Museum's collection – documents, photographs, objects, maps, personal memories and other materials.

It provides information on both the Stalinist and Nazi occupation regimes in Latvia for the period 1940 – 1953 although the content may go beyond these dates as well.  This exposition also offers a comprehensive pre-history and context to the secret Hitler-Stalin protocols of 1939 and provides a considered perspective on the effects of the commencement of World War II in Latvia.
