The future house is a planned project for the reconstruction and extension of the Museum of the Occupation of Latvia, and the creation of a new exhibition, designed by the renowned American-Latvian architect Gunars Birkerts, known for the Latvian National Library building. A bright extension will be added to the old, black Latvian Red Riflemen Museum building. Birkerts describes this as a metaphor: from the dark past to a bright present and enlightened future. However, the most important element will be the new permanent exhibition.
The Latvian government will finance the creation of a memorial monument complex for the Victims of the Soviet Occupation, which is part of the renovation and expansion project for the Museum of the Occupation of Latvia building. The state will pay for the renovation of the building, but the new exhibition and the museum’s interior will be funded by the donations the museum has collected.
The premises facilities, exhibition stands and object are yet to be funded and for these we need your support and donations!
